For your personal car valuation
Assuming you already have a registered account as an eBay seller, the first step is to log in to eBay, hold your mouse over the word SELL at the top of the page and click SELL AN ITEM. This will take you to the Sell An Item page where you'll be asked to describe the item. To automatically fill in a few of the fields click SELL A CAR OR MOTORBIKE next to the picture of a car.
You'll be taken to a page where you'll select a category. Click CARS (and then select the manufacturer of your car) before clicking the blue CONTINUE button at the bottom of the page.
You will then be asked to enter your vehicle's registration number. This allows eBay to check its database of cars to find out whether it already has the details of your car on file. If it has you'll save a lot of time as you won't have to enter the most important details about your car.
Even if it does find your car it will often just come up with a blank NO IMAGE square and a button that says SELL YOURS. With some cars it will come up with an image but for many cars eBay will not have an image on file. Do not worry about this. Just click SELL YOURS. If you want to be sure that the details are right, click SHOW DETAILSSHOW DETAILS.
An important step as eBay's information might not be correct. If a buyer receives your car only to find that it's different to the description they'd be within their rights to return it. So you can see that it's crucial that all of the details in this section are correct before moving on.
The rest of this process occurs on the same page, so it's time to scroll down and enter a TITLE for your item. eBay will fill this out for you automatically but it's possible to make your item stand out more by adding a few of your car's most appealing features to the item title. This is the first part of your listing that prospective buyers will see, so it's important to make it as appealing as possible. If you're not setting a reserve price it's common practice to writeNR after the title.
After the title, comes the ‘item specifics'. These are the other details of your car that have not been automatically filled in for you. Things such as the car's condition, mileage and optional extras. Don't skip this. The more information you include, the more comfortable buyer will feel, and the more likely they'll be to buy.
As the image below makes clear, you can upload twelve pictures of your car for free. As your buyer will not be able to see your car in person, it's essential that you include as many good pictures as possible. Take them in a well-lit area and against a neutral background and be sure to highlight any damage. Make sure you have photographs of the inside and outside, from all angles.
When describing your car give plenty of detail (in not too many words). Unless you think it will really help to highlight your car's best aspects do not repeat what's already been said in the item specifics. Service history, number of owners or other relevant information should be included here. Do not type in all capitals as they're difficult to read.
The only price that eBay requires you to set is the ‘starting price'. However, if you only set a starting price then your car could go for this amount (or any amount above it). The best option is to set a starting price that's relatively low in comparison to the price you expect your car to get. Then set a ‘reserve price' (this will cost you a little extra) to make sure your car doesn't sell for lower than you're willing to go.
Paying a little extra to have the BUY IT NOW price can be useful. This allows you to name a price that you'd be happy to accept. If someone is keen to buy it right away they may then agree to offer this price to end the auction early.
Choose the payment methods you're will to accept by ticking the boxes as applicable.
Review your listing to check that everything is correct. And that's it, you're done.
